Prior to booking a hotel, ask if renovations will be taking place during that time. The worst part about a hotel stay could be when they are doing some kind of construction work when you’re trying to relax. Avoid staying in a hotel that is undergoing construction.
Avoid driving in rush hour traffic when setting out on your trip. It’s better to just take a break than to drive in rush hour traffic on vacation. You can get a bite to eat or allow the the kids play for a minute.
Have a green vacation by choosing services that are environmentally friendly. Do business at hotels that use green energy and offer recycling. Tour operators, restaurants, auto rental companies and other service providers are looking for innovative ways to let travelers go green.
Rental car companies usually require renters to be 18 years old at the youngest, but many require drivers that are at least 25 or older. If you’re not yet 25, you might pay a higher rate, and you might have to put down credit card information. Certain laws prohibit seniors from renting a car. Inquire about age limits when renting a car.
If you are worried about leaving items behind, consider using a dry-erase marker to leave notes on the mirror. You may be likely to lose notes jotted down on paper, but notes written on a mirror with a dry erase pen are easy to see. These markers can be easily erased with a piece of toilet paper, so it is an ideal solution.
Try getting a ‘local’ rate when you book a hotel. Many hotels give people living in the area a special deal in order to try to fill their rooms. If you know anyone who lives where you are going, ask them if they can help you get a discount. This technique can save you quite a bit of money.
Pack extra passport photos when traveling. If your passport gets lost or stolen, it may take time to replace it. If you have an extra photo on hand, it can speed up the entire process. Also, keep any extra documentation you would need to get your passport replaced quickly.
When traveling to a foreign country, you should bring along bottled water. Many countries do not purify their drinking water and this water can cause many different illnesses. Remember to use bottled water even when doing small things like wetting your tooth brush. It is possible to get sick from using the water when brushing your teeth.
Consider using E-tracking when it is available on a travel site. It updates you on the cheapest travel rates. Email alerts will be sent to you if your travel interests has had a price drop or can be found elsewhere at a cheaper price.
When flying, if possible, do not sit your child near the aisle. Either you or other responsible adult should be between the child and aisle. When traveling, and sitting for long periods of time, get up about once every hour to stretch out your legs. If on a plane, go to the restroom even if you don’t need to. Sitting for too long could cause blood clots and actually harm your muscles.
